Dai-Yeun Jeong

Dr. Dai-Yeun Jeong is the Director of the Asia Climate Change Education Center in South Korea, a role he has held since March 2012. He also serves as the Acting Director of the Jeju Secretariat for the UNESCO World Network of Island and Coastal Biosphere Reserves since January 2013. In addition, he is an Emeritus Professor of Environmental Sociology at Jeju National University, where he served as a faculty member from 1981 until his retirement in 2012.
Dr. Jeong received his BA and MA in Sociology from Korea University and earned his PhD in Environmental Sociology from The University of Queensland in Australia. Throughout his distinguished career, he has held key leadership and advisory roles, including President of the Asia-Pacific Sociological Association and Teaching Professor at The University of Sheffield in the United Kingdom. He has also contributed to national policy as a member of the Presidential Commission on Sustainable Development of the Republic of Korea.
Dr. Jeong has represented the South Korean government as a delegate to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and to the OECD Environmental Meetings. Additionally, he served as a Research Associate for the Environmental Policy Committee for Sustainable Development at the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea.
An esteemed academic and researcher, Dr. Jeong is the author of 13 books—including Environmental Sociology—and has published 60 academic papers in both domestic and international journals. He has directed over 100 environmental research projects supported by domestic and international organizations.
